Archaeological heritage
Kimitoön has a rich archaeological heritage both on land and beneath the sea. The Finnish Heritage Agency’s register provides information on known ancient monuments and other archaeological sites in the area, many of which can also be explored on the map.
Help protect our shared cultural heritage
Ancient monuments and archaeological finds are protected by Finnish law. Protected archaeological sites must not be disturbed without permission – this includes digging, damaging, altering or removing them.
If you come across an object or site that may be archaeologically significant, leave it undisturbed and report the discovery to the Finnish Heritage Agency. The Agency provides up-to-date information and guidance on archaeological finds, protected sites and their preservation.
